Choice of digycam??? Pls help.
Hi! My wife & myself are expecting our first baby soon; I want to capture each & every moment for the same. I want to buy a handycam/digicam, with DVD as storage option. Can you please suggest on the same. The price range will be from 15k - 20k.

Re: Choice of digycam??? Pls help.
Will you please help me with the choices? Yesterday, I checked a Sony Model, it is flash drive based, with a capacity of probably 3 GB, & was priced at 27,000/-.
There was another Sony, which was DVD disc recording with 90 mints recording.
I do not want to buy above 20k, so can you guys pls suggest. Also please give your opinions on Canon.
Thanks.

Re: Choice of digycam??? Pls help.
You're facing one of the most meaningful periods in your life and I know just how you feel. I haven't kept myself up-to-date on the camera market for some time and can't give specific advice on models. However, keep in mind that still shots with a movie camera is just an add-on and cannot compete with even a cheap still camera. The reverse is true for movies on a still camera. And don't underestimate the lasting value of still shots compared to movies.
I suggest you buy both a budget still camera and movie camera. There are many good still cameras under 10k, and entry-level movie cameras not much more than 10k.
I've always had doubts about the reliability of direct-DVD movie cams. This was proven recently when a friend of mine shot an important family event with such a camera, and it later turned out that no useable movie was recorded!! Probably a poor-quality disc. Though somewhat less convenient, tape-based cameras are more reliable.
When is the baby due? If it's still some way off, perhaps I could do some market search and come up with more specific suggestions with currently available models.

Re: Choice of digycam??? Pls help.
Yes PimPom u r right; my whole paradigm & meaning of life seems to have changed. The baby is due in March 2009. Thanks for your advice; can you please then help me with some more details so as to shortlist certain models. If I can really get something below 10k it will be gr8. As per your advice then do I get myself a digital camera, such as Canon A 560, which retails somewhere around 8 k? Or Do I get a movie? Choices??
Looking forward for replies.

Re: Choice of digycam??? Pls help.
So should I go for a Camcorder or a digital camera? Please give your opinions/ discussions, since the websites of the manufacturers are quite confusing with astronomical prices quoted.
Please help with your opinions.
