Need Help In Making An Image File...

Hi Everyone,
I want to make an image with just some text and no background! How can i do that. I dont hav much knowledge about image editing. So could you guys help me out here. I want the image to be a bmp file. I have ms paint and gimp software at hand.

Dunno about gimp, but you create a new image with transparent background, and use the text tool to type the text. Thats the standard procedure in all image editing software..
