Which UPS (Brand/Specification) to buy? Less power usage but need more backup time

This is for a laptop +LCD monitor combination.

OK, I have a laptop, it gives bout 3 hr backup. Also I have APC universal laptop battery which gives about 2-3 hrs backup for laptop. So that part is ok, I mean UPS is not needed for laptop.

I need at least 6 hr backup for these items

- 17 or 19 inch LCD monitor.

- Wireless (Dataone, that white colored) modem (its power adapter).

- USB Powered hub adapter.

- Wireless router (Linksys) but not a must as I use only one laptop.

I know these things will not consume much power, but I am concerned about the backup time. I mean it should work even for a long (like 5 or 6 hr) power outage.

Which UPS (Brand / Specs) to go for ? Please suggest.

Also please comment on the service / repairing experience.

I think the total power usage will be less than 50W only rt ?

Average power consumption:

1) ~42W
2) ~3W
3) This will take power directly from the laptop, if I correctly understood what you mentioned.
4) ~4W

The total power consumption will be ~50W. For this setup, I'd suggest a fast switching inverter system (unless you want it to move with you everytime). Thats the cheapest setup which will give you the desired backup.

Really sorry about point 3 (powered hub), I didn't put it right.

It is a powered hub (just like the modem, it has the adapter), but again as you mentioned, may be 5 W right ?

Regarding the requirement, I was planning like a true-mobile-office ! I mean moving everything (except the computer table and chair of course lol) when I travel. I mean when I go to my village house and when I come back. That is the reason I am looking for compact solution, like a sealed battery UPS.

I heard the APC quality gone down these days (not sure whether it is just a rumor). Also a normal UPS which gives about 15 or 20 mins backup for the entire PC will be able to give more than 1 hr backup for the above right ? I mean, as the consumption is lower.

Yes thats true. However there are 2 factors which you need to be careful of. The UPS rating will be in VA (volt amperes). For this setup a max of 500VA is enuf. However to extend the backup you will need to pump up the mAh (or indirectly the number of battries). Now this the problem here. You may not get larger capacity batteries with UPS of such average VA rating. I however remember seeing Microtek UPS which allow you to attach additional external batteries. That may be a good setup for your usage.

^^^ Thats a 1KVA UPS, too much for your work. But then more never hurts However, I couldn't find the backup time. Any info on that?

When we click the "Cutting Edge Quality" tab of the above link, it says

" Provides 20 - 25 minutes back-up on a two PC load with 15inch Monitor. The UPS provides regulated voltage when the mains electrical power is 140-300V thus conserving battery power. "

15 inch, hmm, they didn't specify its LCD or CRT !!!

Can suggest a the brand as APC. No match in quality. Sorry i cant suggest the specification. You can go to their website and check out what you need.

OK, had a chat with APC support guy, said they will get back to me with details and price tomo morning.

They sent an email in the morning itself - as promised, but I may go to the APC dealer to get more idea. Basically 3 or 4 models which suits me, from 10 K to 17 K.

Will go and check today.
