The content u are downloading/have downloaded is shared with other peers.
So upload speed is the speed with which the particular file is being uploaded by u .
The file will remain intact in ur PC ... That is .. It is not passing ur PC contents to other leechers.

Not that, ur bandwidth is urs only.
its to say that suppose as soon as u get some portion of the file, say 5% for the example, u start sharing ur 5% with other ppl like u, at the same time u keep requesting and getting the other 95% from other ppl like you, who are having the portion of the file which you do not have, and are sharing that portion the same way u r sharing ur 5% .
So baseline is, if everyone stops sharing, u won't get even a bit of that file.
Thats why they say, Sharing is Caring.
