Default what happens if I don't replace my mothboard battery?

Hi Guys,my motherboard battery has gone dead because each time I start my system it takes me to the year 2000,I don't want to replace it as I don't mind setting the clock right again.
I hope it does not affect any other application or devices?is it fine to leave a dead battery in the motherboard

2.is there any way to recharge it without opening the cpu?

thank you

hey............dont b afraid................nothing will happen if u change ur battery...........
no there is no option to recharge it.......
the battery is used to power the BIOS ROM so that data does not get deleted when u power off the CPU................maximum that can happen that is ur BIOS will be restored to factory settings...............nothing more than that............change it.............don't worry................

Adding to krishnandu's reply:
Besides the clock, you will lose any settings you change from BIOS, such as the amount of graphics memory for onboard video, boot sequence, etc. Also, after a long time, a dead battery may leak and cause corrosion of some motherboard component.

Motherboard BIOS battery is cheap and easy to replace. If you don't feel up to doing it yourself, just take your CPU to a computer shop and ask them to do it. It takes just a minute.

besides the BIOS settings .. sometimes windows may refuse to boot... if you dont set the time correctly . some secure websites will refuse to open...
besides rather then buying the battrey from some pcwalla .. u should go to some watch-walla,s shop and thr u shud be able to get this battrey .. approximate price RS. 30
take the battrey out of ur mobo and show it to him and tell him to give you a similar one
