Default 1GB or 2*512 MB?


which gives better performance? a single 1 GB stick or 2 512 MB sticks?

2x512 MB is better if your motherboard supports dual-channel operation.

see if the two / four ram slots in your mother board has two slots of same color. If so and you use ram of same speed, the motherboard will use the ram in dual channel mode. If so, faster, otherwise 1GB stick is same.

^But always refer to your mobo manual. I've heard of some boards that do not follow this color coding.
