how to create a Partion

I all...

i just now got dell laptop 1530 which came with a 250 gb hard disk..

they have prev have two partition... one for os and another for recovery.. backup ..

after going into disk management in admin tools in cpanel.. i found two other partition .. so it makes a total of 4 ..

now since vista only recognizes 4 partition... how do i add another partition onto it...

I had used vista earlier and used more than 4 partitions....
Dont know why is it stopping you
Now I dont have space( I download like hell) so
had to move back to XP . It crashed a lot ,64 bit Vista is the safest and stable Ms OS.

i read somewhere that dell locks or the vista reads only 4 partition ( i doubt this one though )

isthere a way guys ..

i seriuosly need it..

i tried creating a partition with windows disk mamangement... ie Shrink Volume option..

i created a unallocated partition ... but i want able to format or create a volume out of it..


please anyone ?

My guess is the four partitions you currently have are all primary partitions.FYI, any hard disk can't have more than 4 primary partitions.More partitions can be added be creating a container [called extended partition] and then by creating as many partitions [called logical partitions] as you need inside this container.
Your best bet is to delete one of the current partitions [preferably the very last one] and in that unformatted space, create an extended partition and then create logical partitions inside it.Try something like Gparted for doing this.

i cant delete anything as ... 1.OS , 2.Dell~s own recovery partition 3.)Dell Media Direct for use of media center like while switched off laptop 4.)I cant even make out wht it is .. since when i right click on that partition .. i get only "help" on right click.. nothing other...


Gparted ?? how .. please explain....

boot into Linux/ or use gparted livecd to better understand your partition structure. then ,limit your extended partition and gain some free space.... and yes ,max 4 primary partitions.that means you have to ..
