I bought my PC 4 months Back. Still under warranty. I have P4 3 Ghz HT, 865 GBF Mother board, 512 DDR400 Ram, DVD Rom,CD RW, 128 MB GeForce and 160 GB 7200RPM Seagate HDD. OS:-Windows XP SP2 Problem:- Every time i start my PC windows scandisk starts automatically and detects lots of corrupted files i.e something like Truncated, every time it finds the corrupted file and truncated files. Many a times my PC starts restarting from the welcome screens itself , in such condition the PC starts only by selecting the "Last Known Good Configuration" from F8 menu and also if i load some new HARDWARE device like USB Bluetooth it's driver r lost every time i restart the PC. I have reformated, Repartitioned and Reinstalled OS more than 3 time but no change Same thing happens after some days. WHAT WUD BE THE PROBLEM?? PLZ HELP .

Random restarts can be caused by a number of things -
1. Memory. The most popular software for testing RAM is memtest86, but I've known some cases where memtest86 detects no problem with RAM but it still causes problems. If you can borrow a known good RAM stick, try substituting your RAM. 5. Inadequate power supply. 2. Incorrect BIOS settings. Try clearing the CMOS and then reinstall the OS. 3. HDD bad sectors. Have you done a surface scan ? 4. Virus. |

FORGET THE HARD DISC !!!
I JUST HAD A PROBLEM QUITE SIMILAR , TRY REPLACING YOUR SMPS IT MIGHT BE :- 1.FAULTY 2.UNDERPOWERED GO IN FOR AN INCREASE AND SEE IF IT SOLVES THE PROBLEM ONLY THEN CONSIDER OTHER STUFF SUCH AS RAM AND THEN MAYBE THE HARD DISC.

Check your hard disk for error using HDD Utilities provided by the manufacturer and use Norton Systemworks and use Norton Disk Doctor and check. If there is an error get the HDD replaced
