Default Suse installation - glitches

Could not wait for the Digit DVD ROM and I treated myself to a brand new SATA 80GB Barracude and a Samsung DVD ROM from the market.
Glitch-1
When i popped in the Suse Distro, Yast failed to recognize the SATA drive. Even attempts at partitioning and formatting(FAT32) using windows failed to make Yast recogniz the drive.
I got tired and some net posts mentioned similar issues. So, I moved some windows drives from my Samsung 40Gig IDE to the SATA and deleted the windows partitions.
Now Yast was happy, it recognized the unused partitions in the IDE and suggested formatting. The funny thing now is that Yast started recognizing the SATA drives.

Glitch - 2
Yast said it could not format the drive(after partitioning of course). Repeated attempts yielded no better results. Again, tired, i logged into windows and formatted the unpartitioned space using FAT32. Now i repeated the steps and again Yast was smiling happily. Cleanly resized the fat32 partitions i had just created and went on with linux installation.

Have any of you guys experienced such quirky behaviour?
Cheers
