Default Virtual Memory Error!

I have 256 MB RAM running Win Xp with SP1 with all updates except SP2.
Now my task manager shows pagefile usage as 856 MB with no applications running except AVG 7.0 and Google desktop search. None in the processes list show Memory usage above 10,000 K.
And the problem comes when I run big games which used to run fine previously like Age Of Mythology. It says Virtually Memory insufficient and so, it is exiting the application. It happens after I play the game for a few minutes.
I have page file of 768 MB and both the upper and lower limits are fixed at to 768 MB. This setting was mentioned in memory tweaks and was working fine for me.
The problem is to get down the memory usage to <200 MB ...Any suggestions?

Tried all those.... didn't help.
I think its one of those stupid microsoft patches out there. They are leaking things.
When I start the system it shows 170 MB as th page file usage but after some time It turns to 800 MB and above!
Some one helppp!!!

try this :
Right click on my computer, go to the advance tab, click the settings under the performance section. Go to the advance of the performance dialogue box, click change on the virtual memory section, here u can change the paging file size of the drives to a higher value.

more simplified:

mycomputer(rightclick,properties)>advanced>setting s(under performance)>advanced(performance options)>change(virtual memory)

This should solve u problem.

Isn't 768 MB for my 256 MB physical RAM sufficient to run Xp?
More over the problem is the excessive usage...
How much does your computer use? Not 800 MB pgae file usage in TaskManager?

Yes the max u can set is 680 something i tell u don't go for the patches they @#$% ur pc damn it.

Well do one more thing.... remove the page files from your parent drive hopefully it is C:. and increase the page file size in other drives in accordance to the size of the drives.

If all tricks Fails try Reinstalling WinXP with SP2, This wud solve ur prb 99%.

I have my page file on 'e' which is a 4 GB partition with a few files of my friend who rarely use them. Pagefile is not on the system partition.

BTTray.lnk is my bluetooth Tray app.

I removed the other one but found it to be a part of skinning engine of crystalXp I installed from Digit DVD, removing it removed the customised explorer buttons.
Just played the cricket 2002 game and the problem came back...

I think I have to wait for another stupid patch by windows to patch up this patch. Anyway, thank you very much.
