PC 4 yrs Old - SATA or IDE DVD Writer ??

My machine is four years old. The config is somewhat as below

Motherboard - Intel 915 (i think so)
Pentium 4 - 2.4Ghz
80gb hdd
256 MB RAM
onboard 64 MB gfx
built in LAN
Liteon 16xx dvd writer (purchased 2 yrs back)

I need to buy a new DVD writer but i dont know whether to buy a SATA or IDE one. I dont have much clue about these interfaces. So please help me.

I found one latest 22X samsung SATA DVD Writer costing 1200 bucks. Shud i buy it. Will it work in my machine. If not then which IDE DVD Writer to go for?

Plz help urgently as i need to go tomm to buy the same.

well rak007,
first of all plz post ur motherboard model correctly so that we can tell u accurately..'

2ndly, u can check ur motherboard manual or box if there's something written whether it supports sata or not..

3rdly, as u r saying ur system is 4yrs old.. its advisable to stick to IDE rather than SATA (as u didn't post appropriately ur motherboard model,i cant recemmend)

4thly.. ur configuration is pretty ok... consider updrading to another 1gb RAM..

5thly.. why are u bothering about getting another DVD RW? is ur Liteon Malfunctioning..??

6thly.. I WOULD ADVISE ANYONE NOT TO GO FOR SAMSUNG OPTICAL DRIVES.. THEY ARE NOT AS GOOD .. (My opinion)
AND
why u need such a fast optical drive 22x?? theres no media still in the market..?
I bought a Liteon DVD RW 20x i year back still i dont find 20x media where i live (bangalore) even after an year..??

Dont upgrade ur Drive instead.. try upgrading HDD and RAM.. they are always beneficial..

Lastly, go for IDE, (to stay on the safe side..) GO FOR LITEON, aankhe band karke..
LITEON ROCKS.. even u would be saying so, isnt it??

and if u r too much favour to get ur self a new 22x dvd rw get Lite-On iHAP622 and iHAS622 22x DVD Writers (whichever had IDE and available in ur place...

My Liteon DVD writer is dying and hence i wanna buy a new one. Since it did not work as expected (even after scarce use) i am not going for a liteon again. Thats why i am exploring other options like samsung and LG. Last heard Samsung has now improved greatly in terms of burners.

thats too bad on ur part ... well i am still an happy user of liteon..

and as far as ur experimentation is considered.. I STILL DONT RECOMMEND Samsung... Though u can obviously go for LG (they are 2nd best, acc to me) i had an LG CD-ROM and CD-RW, i AM using it for 5years now.. still no probs..

and as far as DVD Drives are considered they r good too... some friends of mine use LG DVD RW.. u can go for it..

THOUGH DONT TAKE MY WORDS FOR FINAL ... DO HAVE SOME MORE AUDIENCE POLL... OKAY..
