Suggest a config

Plz suggest a configuration for the following hardware : -
I will be assembling this pc myself and will b using it on the lan.

1 > AMD Processor(only) and supporting motherboard.
(i) Processor -- [ Pentium equivalent (1Ghz to 2Ghz range) ]
(ii) Motherboard
--- 2 USB slots will be sufficient
--- support for DDR RAM (266 FSB will do)
--- 3 pci slots will suffice
--- agp 4x is ok.

2 > Preferably onboard sound and graphics card.
--- if not onboard plz suggest other.
--- will not b playing games or running any 3d-intensive applications.

3 > Lan Card/Cables (good quality..plz give a detailed desc)
(Also plz gimme detailed specs bout setting up a wireless lan.)


Plz gimme a rough idea about the individual prices. Plz elaborate on Lan card/cables/wireless.

Will decide bout cd-rom,speakers,floppy drive,hard disk,monitor,keyboard,mouse myself.

NOTE :- My sole purpose to get a new pc is to try out some networking applications in Windows and Linux.

anyways since this is low end config ... shouldnt make a diff
as for the proccy if ur going in for amd 2000 then u better hurry they are fading out the 266 fsb
amd 2000 : INR 2850
supporting mobo : id suggest an asus ... anyways ull get boards ranging from INR 3000-INR 7000 with onboard sound , graphics and LAN . but for ur needs u can go in for a krypton with above features. .. will cost u ard INR 4000 approx ..
256 mb ddr 333 ram should be enuff for INR 1800
for wireless u can get adapters from 3000 - 4500
access points from 5000 onwards
a kit for 2 pc's with AP for 8k and less

My budget is around 8 - 9 k.
This excludes cd-rom,speakers,floppy drive,hard disk,monitor,keyboard,mouse and ram.

Will consider bout wireless lan some time later.

Go for AMD Athlon 2400+.
Best value for money.

Get AMD Athlon XP 2600+ Barton with Asus A7N8X-VM mobo with nForce2 IGP. The board has GeForce 4 MX graphics and you can share 128MB of your main memory with that. The Kingston ValueRAM would be the great option with this.
