Default keyboard typing wrong things


I recently formatted my computer
installing win2k,xp(sp2)

I have microsoft mutimedia keyoard

in xp my keyoard types # instead of \
and shows the "pound" symbol when i type #

also while setting up my network settings
while giving workgroup name as madhav it gives an error
"workgroup names cannot contain special characters
such as ($%^* etc"
but when i type # which it shows as(pound symbol) it says nothing

well my keyboard works well in win 2k

Looks like your keyboard driver is faulty. Go to My Computer(right clicke)>>Properties>>HardwareTab>>Device Manager>>Keyboards

Select your keyboard and right click update your driver and follow the instructions given.

I think its a wrong selection of a keymap. Select us key map it should solve the problem.

yes during the installtion its By default US

mebbe u have pressed the down arrow or scroll key from mouse

I hve checked the prob here. this is the prob with default language setting. switch of to us it will surly solve the prob.

anurag_online seems to have hit the bull's eye. Change the keyboard language settings and it should start working properly. I have faced this problem in a Dell laptop (WinXP).
