Lightbulb A Question for All


This is a question of electrical circuits. What is the relation of equivalent power of the circuit with individual power of each resistor in a series combination of resistors? Is it like this : 1/P = 1/P1+1/P2+1/P3...?
Please help me out!

No man... its P = P1 + P2 + P3 + .... PN

Why?

P = I*I*R

I is same in series combination of resistors, only voltage drop varies. So all I*I terms cancel out in LHS and RHS.


Er...I hope I was right... was never strong in electrical ckts...

Total power is calculated as sum of power dissipated by the individual elements. It is always the addition of power dissipation. P = p1 + p2 +...+pn

Don't confuse total power dissipation of the combined resistances with their method of connection with respect to the circuit, ie series or parallel.

Yeah, and as dheeraj_kumar said, P= I^2 * R.
