Total power is calculated as sum of power dissipated by the individual elements. It is always the addition of power dissipation. P = p1 + p2 +...+pn
Don't confuse total power dissipation of the combined resistances with their method of connection with respect to the circuit, ie series or parallel.
Yeah, and as dheeraj_kumar said, P= I^2 * R.
