Minimum net speed reqd for making Voip calls ??

Please let me know what is the minimum internet connection speed required for making Voip calls ?

a decent 256 Kbps will work fine. but it shud be symmetric. I mean download and upload both speeds should be good. many ISPs give asymmetric connection. so u have more downstream bandwidth than upstream, and to make things bad, ISPs always quote downstream speed in their plan.
