DOS applications not working...pls help

[runtime error]

hi

i have windows xp professional installed on my computer.when ever i try to run dos applications i get an error message ..
"16 bit Windows Subsystem(message box title)"
"E:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.Nt .The system file is note suitable for running MS-DOS and MICROSOFT WINDOWS applications.Choose 'close' to terminate the application."

i ve no problem with other applications or files.

pls help me.....
