Best option, in my opinion is to use TrueCrypt to encypt the data.

^^He will have to install truecrypt on each pc through which he wants to access these encrypted files which may not be feasible. Password protection to ZIP archive would be a better option than that

^^ exactly...but one more thing , i don't want it to convert it to an archive ... i just want that the folder shud be accessible with just typing the password , and then the contents are easily visible ( just like the windows logon ...

One more thing if the above can't be done , is there any way out i can make my folder hidden as soon as the HDD is disconnected from my PC and plugged into another PC , and whenever i need to access that folder , i can make it visible !

Guys hold.................... who says that if u want to use truecrypt then one has to install truecrypt on each pc.

if u have truecrypt isntalled then check the feature Tools>Traveller Disk Set Up and go ahead with it. Truecrypt gets installed with the required files in the removable storage and u can now carry it to any PC with windows. Now u need not require the truecrypt installed on that pc and truecrypt will run standalone to encrypt/decrypt anywhere u want.

That's 100% correct. TrueCrypt is completely portable. The only catch is you need to have admin rights on the PC you want to run TrueCrypt.
