Default What does AC3 6 Channels mean?

I tried searching for the term but did'nt get an exact meaning of the term? If at all I want to play a DVD Rip on my Home Theater which is the best DVD rip that I Should look for? I borrowed some DVD Rips from my friend but I wasnt getting very good quality sound output on my Home Theater? Is it because it was a 700 MB rip? I also came across this terme AC3 6 Channels. So apart from the actual DVD-R that we get what are the other formats that though they are lesser in size we will get good quality especially audio? Please help!

AC3 is an audio filter. When it says, it comes with 6 channels, it means that you would get the best out of audio even if you use a 6 channel speaker, as in a 6.1. But, to my knowledge if you are using a stereo, you would not experience any difference, if not a tint. It certainly would be better than say other lower quality audios and because its AC3, you can use AC3 filter to boost your volume, surround and stuffs and make it better. I hope this helped a little?

Dude the information that you gave was definitely useful I wanted to check would it make a difference when I play it on my Home Theater as compared to playing it on a PC. Coz I primarily I'm looking to play it on my home theater. Will it be good or you think its really not worth it. I heard somewhere in the forum that even after compressing you may get almost same quality in sound .

If you have a home theater, at least 5 channels (i presume), yes, AC3 6 channel audio will definitely have a better effect than a dual channel audio which will be the same as how you hear in a stereo. Go ahead. Its worth it
