Default point a subdomain to a different host

I have a site hosted on xtreemhost.com - example.com

Name servers
ns1.xtreemhost.com
ns2.xtreemhost.com

Can I assign my blog, hosted on blogspot, the subdomain - xyz.example.com
So that any permalink to my blog shows http://xyz.example.com/....

I am using the DNS service provided by everyDNS. I have made some changes to the records of my domain

Will these work?

In my account with the domain registrar I have entered the name servers of everydns
ns1.everydns.net
ns2.everydns.net
ns3.everydns.net
ns4.everydns.net

If it is of any help
xtreemhost.com also allows us to write to .htaccess. I have uploaded my own file to redirect example.com to ww*.example.com

i thought just adding Cname should work. Try re checking in your blogspot settings for a custom url.

I remembered one point......... Did you wait for the DNS to crawl.

I am no web master but few details from my END...

Yes you can point any subdomain to a different host.... Problem is you need to have a domain side DNS control allowing such or your primary HOST allowing that..

for example, DreamHost do allow you to host a subdomain out from their hosting to another one...

Why wont it work with EveryDNS.NET ??

On theory it should... how ever problem is when park a domain in a host they autometically asign an A record as

*.yourdomain.com >> A >> Hosting IP

This is to make sure any subdomain which you creat autometically point to the same hosting to avoide any delay on the functionality of the subdomain...

so I see it actually over writes any change on everyDNS.net !!! it doesnt work

What to do ??

Now to make this thing work, you need to remove that primary A record for wild card entry

*.yourdomain.com >> A >> Hosting IP

so does your host allow you DNS control on their hosting panel ??

Default Re: point a subdomain to a different host

when i contacted their tech support [ticket], they asked me to change the name server in my domain registars account to - ns1.xtreemhost.com & ns2.xtreemhost.com

When i did that everything worked fine. I was getting a site @ example.com (hosted at xtreemhost) and also blog.example.com (hosted at blogspot)

They said that if I have to make changes to my domain records I will have to contact them and they will change it or me.

When I insisted on having more control over my domain records, they said that in that case I could continue using everydns name servers but I have to add an A-record to 209.51.196.242 in the entry

I had made those xchanges a couple of hours back. now I am sitting back and waiting for the DNS changes to propogate and hopefully things will work out again

my current records

Anyway thanks for replying
I was getting a feeling that people had boycotted me on this forum

Things seems to be working fine now. I now have a site at example.com(xtreemhost) and also blog.example.com (blogspot)

The record entries (screenshot in my third post) seems to have done the trick

Another thing
All through my problem, the ticket-based tech suppport offered by byet.org [xtreemhost is a reseller] had been extremely prompt and patient (aftr 9.30 PM IST). I quite liked it

but dont go for their hosting

their IP is being blocked by PG2 because of another subdomain that they are hosting on the same IP

I will point it out to them in my next post in the ticket. Lets see what they do

Yes any Host will have hosting side DNS control

Now they have deleted the wild card subdomain IP i guess, so if you creat another subdomain, you have to add an A record every time at everyDNS.net
