Default myth r reality abt Desktop

Is it a myth or really that when you have a wallpaper in your desktop that the monitor would soon lose its brightness and some other stuff. If it is true, then r we supposed to have plain wallpapers for our desktops and to what extent would the wallpapers affect the monitor if at all we had a wallpaper.

Default Na that's a myth

That's a pure myth. Do u know that while watching a movie at 30 fps ur monitor is displaying almost 30 images within a frame of a second. Still nothing happens to ur monitor coz it is been made to display images and other stuff. The tube CRT in monitor gets weaken over a period of time but for that no one can help. It also has its shelf life like all other products.

But as far as ur concern, put any wallpaper u want to put and enjoy ur desktop appearance.

well its not a myth.. but these days the monitors dont have those probs.. but they did have it in the starting ages.. and also it was adviced not to leave ur monitor showin a single screen for a long time.. and that was one of the reasons a screen saver was invented.. however these days u needn worry bout any of those stuffs..

this is not myth....

actually prolonged use of any still image on monitor will give problems. thats why people use screen savers so that the screen is moving.

but instead u can use power saving modes.

Well ya what aadipa has said is true. What actually happens is , if we have a single image onthe screen sitting ideal for a prolong time the pixels will not get the proper referesh . Hence, a screensaver was introduced to get the referesh . The better option today would be to enable power manangement and let the monitor go to a stand-by mode after a prolong period of in-activity. This is the best and better as of now.

Hmm..
So screensavers did have a purpose after all.
I wasnt aware of that and used to think that its totally useless and just a resource hog.
Always abused and wondered who invented the 'screensavers' afterall.
So it did have a purpose and the intention behind it was not just for fun.
Good info..

But that was for really OLD monitors... The new monitors don't face such problems... So screensavers are now just for fun...

Screen Saver - A program that displays an animated picture or pattern when the computer has not received input from the keyboard for a specified period. Screen savers were originally used to prevent "screen burn" or ghosting, a condition that caused the screen's inner coating to wear from images or text that was constantly present. Modern display screens are no longer subject to this condition, yet the screen saver has retained it's popularity. Many interesting and unusual screen saver patterns are included in both Macintosh and Windows operating systems as well on thousands of Websites for free downloading.
