Red face need a converter pls...

hi techies... i have a question for all of you.
i wanna convert a dvd into .mkv format.
my criterias are:
1)both audi & video quality should be 10/10
2)size of the movie should be the minimum
3)process should not be tedious as i am not a tech geek. so the process should be simple yet perfect
4)that software should contain all the necessary codecs for conversion.so that i dont get any error while converting.

one more doubt is, which file format is better, x264 or mkv???
i believe that mkv is better as i have seena movie with mkv format which i grade it as 10/10 compared to the same movie in x264 as 9/9. i dont know about the source from which my friend converted it. but this is what i have observed.

pls let me know if there i any simple guide to do this procedure, so that even a noob in this field can convert from dvd to mkv.....

i would be happy if i get a software or any project which explains this rocess in detail and the process should be simple perfect and complete....

waiting for ur replies.... thank you in advance....

If none have come out with an answer, you better google search DVD to .mkv and find your way through instead of lamenting here.
Admins/mods may please delete this thread as requested.

First of all forget video converting and all, it's all waste of time
It's my personal opinon, if u r trying to ripp a dvd.

Now if you want to convert and store your recorded home-videos, i suggest go for dvd format, its fast at converting and widely compatible.

If it's a tv source just use total video converter it's the best. It's got lot of codecs.

Now for your mkv file type, it's only a container, codec used is x264 and is very good but very slow and heavy on proccesing etc etc.
Only tool i know freeware is Megui i think.
