Liteon and sony are exact same drives. Sony=OEM liteon.
Avoid LG and samsung.

LG Drives are said to have problems in reading scratched discs, Samsung drives develop tray problems after 7-8 months. Sony and Liteon are same as funkymonkey said.

As far as your question goes, my vote for Liteon too.

But, seriously...maybe you should just search the forums and go thru the 15-odd threads about precisely the same topic. Some may be about a week old and the answer aint gonna be any different now! This avoids redundancy.

Do the right thing!!!

Default Just Bring It

A few years back i had a LG DVD Rom drive.I never read any DVD disks with it.It was practically laying eggs, not being used for years. And finally i get a movie DVD after 2-3 years of purchasing a DVD Drive ,the drive would not read the DVD.Then i found out that it would not read DVD9 disks. So my suggestion is if u watch a lot of movies get a DVD player for the TV,but if u have a lot of DVD data disks then and only then upgrade to a DVD Rom Drive.
Getting back from the flashback go for a Pioneer DVD Drive,The best there is,but mind u it is an OEM Drive so u won't get any packaging or an original PowerDVD software.

first things first....i dont suggest u to go for samsung but lemme tell u that samsung is the best capable brand to read scratched cds....other brands like liteon are also good but they all generally have probs. with scratched cds....in other words samsung handles the scaratched cds better then any other brand....having said that samsung has got some serious issues like tray probs.(90% of them have)....
well if u want a dvd rom drive for say like a year and ur main purpose is to watch lots of dvds then u can give samsung a shot(actually its improved now, coz it has collaborated with toshiba recently) but if u want a long term usage then go liteon or asus....asus being the most reliable brand!

dont even think about lg....

ENjoy....
