Default hard disk problem


When i try to format a partition which contains windows xp sp1 using
the command 'format drivename:' it gets stuck after 77% and message appears RECOVERING FROM ALLOCATION UNIT 1,319,098 and the number keeps on increasing .I RAN SCANDISK but i din't find any errors

format using the recovery console with the winxp bootable cd.

Just Format using Format command while booting with a bootable floppy if you find any bad sectors go for low level formatting. This will solve your problem

first run ScanDisk in DOS mode so that the surface scan fixes all bad sector problems.

next format the drive using the command:
format <drive> /u/v

this should help.
