dial-up connection problem
hi ppl!
i just got a new pc with an asus k8n mobo having onboard lan
but whenever i access network connections for creating a new connection...it does not give me an option to use my dial-up modem even though win xp recognizes my modem and all the modem drivers are installed
is this problem coz of the onboard lan on my motherboard?

the problem is that you have disabled some of your services.
go to start-->run--->services.msc and enable the services that are required for dialup. make their status to automatic.
take one of the services for eg. network connections. enable it and then go the dependencies tab and enable the mentioned ones too after reading their description
make a note of the services that you have changed into automatic
go to start-->run--->msconfig
go to the services tab and then check the services that you have noted. restart your computer and see if it works

connect using a dial-up modem is grayed out
1) From the Start menu, choose Control Panel. The Control Panel window will appear.
2) Open the Administrative Tools icon.
3) Open the Services icon. The Services window will appear.
4) Highlight the Remote Access Connection Manager service.
5) From the Action menu, select Properties. The Remote Access Connection Manager Service window will appear.
6) Click the General tab.
7) From the Startup type: drop-down menu, choose the Automatic option.
8) Click the Apply button, and then click the Start button.
9) Click the OK button.
10)Restart the computer.
11)Attempt to use the New Connection Wizard again.
If the above resolution does not work:
1. From the Start menu, choose Run.
2. In the Open field, type sfc /scannow and then click the OK button.
3. Select the defaults when prompted throughout the System File Checker process and allow the computer to restart when completed.
If the above resolution did not work :
1) Back-up the registry
2) In the registry editor window, open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
3) Open the system folder
4) Open the currentcontrolset folder
5) Open the services folder.
6) Open the Rasman folder.
7) Open the PPP folder.
8) Open the EAP folder
Note : If there is folder named 25 and another folder named 26 proceed
to the next step, otherwise donot continue this fix.
9) Select the folder named 25 so that it is highlighted and then press the delete key
10)Select the folder named 26 so that it is highlighted and then press the delete key
11)Restart the computer
12)Attempt to use the New Connection Wizard again.
