Norton SystemWorks for overall system tuneup.
TweakUI for general tuning.

instead i would say make this the topic, 'What Programs u Don't Use To Keep (or Make) Your Computer Smooth'

i dun have any av/firewall/spware/adware/malware anything

pure windows XP, builtin firewall for my 24 hrs dialup connection and have no worries the day it becomes a lil too much messy i reinstall it

usuall a reinstall every 2 weeks

the best way to keep a system running smooth

but u need to be a lil careful where u save and backup ur files and folders before formatting and reinstalling the OS again

i always believe that if u are a lil careful, there no need for a AV atleast for personal home use

but yea then again ppl wod say y use condoms when u can control urself and be careful..!!

It would be better if you use an AV.
Why reinstall every 2 weeks? you should atleast use it for a month!!
But its your choice ofcousre

I too dont use any tweaking tools. My PC runs finer without them. I have used System Mechanic but not satisfied with it. But i rather use NAV 2004

The only thing I use is HijackThis and Avast as an antivirus.

I use slackware linux and I try to compile most applications from source ... that makes it smoother ...

On windows, I use cacheman, RAMDef, and CCleaner, thats all I need.

Ace Utilities for Cleaning junk files, removing invalid shortcuts, cleaning registry. (Try Tune-Up Utilities, CCLeaner, AntiTracks)

Registry Compacator (or Compressor) for compacting the registry.

BitDefender for AntiVirus. (Try AVG, Avast)

MS AntiSpy for removing spyware. (Also AdAware, SpybotSD)

Defrag Disk once a month.

If you can lay your hands on Fix-It Utililites, try that too.

Use them and then select those which suit you the best !

additionally use tune-up utilities to disable 'xp eye candy' like cursor shadows, etc, fo Maximum Performance.

some services are not required if you dont use internet or if yours is a stand-alone pc. these can be disabled or made manual too ! but take a litle care in this case ! also keep a check on your start-ups. WinPatrol can help you here.
