Which CD Writer is most reliable???:?:
I hav a samsung 40-12-40 CD RW ,buying this writer was the biggest mistake i made, a samsung writer is the worst u can buy and the after sales support is terrible. samsung writers mostly give errors like 'buffer underun error','could not perform fixation' etc .I tried samsung DVD combo but i also started giving the same errors just after two months. so pls help me buying a new CD RW or a good DVD combo drive. pls suggest the most reliable based on ur experience.

Well, I have a Sony 52X/32X/52X CD RW. And all CDs until today have been successfully burnt. Not a single time has my CD RW given me an error. And because this is my first writer, I can only suggest u to buy this Sony one. Actually, one of my friends has a Sony 48X CD RW, and he has been using it without any problems at all. So, I have pretty good experiences with Sony writers.
I would suggest you not to go for a combo drive, and buy a DVD-ROM drive separately...... but there are plenty of people who may think otherwise. So, finally, u have to make up your mind.

I've been using LG RW drive for the past 18 months, and it is working absolutely fine. no errors.
and buy DVD ROM and CD RW drives separately, instead of combo, I'll suggest.

I too have the Samsung 40-12-40 CDRW. Its works fine. No errors nothing. I don't know why ur rw is not working fine. It may don't work because improper maintainence (I mean CDRW may get damaged or does not work correctly while burning on cheap/local discs).
Also clean ur lens with a cd cleaner! It may solve ur problem!

I own a Samsung CD writer, many of my friends also use samsung drives and all of them work just fine. Remember, CD drives unlike most computer peripherals, have many moveable parts, most drives bite the dust due to manhandling or lack of cleanliness.

Try defragmenting your C: (or the drive in which your program files folder is located). There must be at least 1 GB free space on that drive when you burn CDs. If it is not hardware problem, this should make your writer burning CDs properly without error.

I know all abt how to maintain a writer or drives and i hav fixed many ,but samsung is the one i'll never advice to go for ,and the worst of it the after sales support really sucks, my writer was for three months in the service center and those guys were never able to fix it properly. you r probably lucky.

hello ppl
nice to be back after a break
Samsung writers r downright CRAP !!
LG writers r GREAT
Sony r great too but they lack decent after sales support when compared with LG
i personally hate Liteon since they make a LOT of noise, it's like starting a small jetengine inside ur PC
as for benq and krypton , it's simply not worth goin in for them cos they dont give u any decent price advantage and dont perform as well as other brand neway
so LG would be a best buy for u
and DO NOT buy combo drives
stick to CD-RW drives and go for a seperate DVD ROM Drives
enjoy

all i can say is that:
do not go for samsung
do not go for samsung
do not go for samsung
do not go for samsung
do not go for samsung
well about others i do not have much experience about lg ones
liteon one are good and i have ordered the one in digit offer.
sony are rebadged liteons so difference is negligible and re good.
benq, i have two friends who are satisfied user of benq drives for 2 years no probs at all.
so my suggestions liteon > sony > benq > lg. stop here.

I fully agree. Liteon is the best choice. Sony is also made by Liteon. I can write a full 700 MB Cd on my Liteon 52x cdrw in less than 2min 45 secs at any given time.

Hasn't anybody here used an ASUS cd writer?
I bought one recently because almost every shopkeeper in Lamington Road (and all of my geek friends) recommended ASUS....
Please post any of ur experiences...
(Also, how do u pronounce ASUS ? is it as in "jaasoos"(spy) in hindi or as in "aces"...some ppl also call it A.S.U.S )

Well I dont have first hand experience in samsung writers, But 2 of my friends have Samsung writers, and all i can say is....Where the hell is the reliablity?.. While one friend gives me fully written CD's which conatin nothing at all!!! Well CD shows 0MB free space and 0MB contents in my writer (Asus CRW4012U and my LiteDVD rom drive refuse to acknowledge the prescence of the CD).. and yeah, His dirve itself tells him that its a zero MB disc...
Now only way to recover it is to Use ISOMagic or something Similar to recover the data... (Awesome way to conceal P0rn eh?!? ).
And my other friend yess, If i need anything i give him two CD's, One his Samsung writer eats as appetizer(which it needs 40% of times) and other to actually write...
Now, I know that this maynot be the case with all, but my opinion is that Samsung Optical Drives are unreilable.... It may or maynot work...
As far as new writer goes my vote is for Liteon... Its a lil louder, but it also gets the job done Fasst...!!!
