This is my first post here. I'm looking to build a good gaming PC for about INR 30k (without input/output peripherals, box only). I want a GF 6600 or better (no ATI) and 1 Gig of system memory. Primary purpose will be Flight Simming where I've found that processor clocks, memory capacity and HD speeds are the primary bottlenecks. Imagine flying with Megascenery's South California addon. The photoreal textures are almost 2gb. Please send in your suggestions. I'm a bit rusty wrt current technology/fads and Indian market prices. It's been almost 1.5 yrs since I last built a PC (cost me about A$ 1500, sold for A$ 500). Any input will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Keith |

1 Gb of memory alone will cost you around rs 8000. Your budget allows you only a 6600 plain so go for it @ 7500.

A gig of memory shud not be much of problem since the prices have gone down and 1Gig of memory from good brands like trancend is available for 6k easily. Hynix and other cheaper options are also available. But u might have to increase your budget if you want both 1Gug memory and the 6600nonGT
Heres wot i got a64 2800+ 5.2k asus k8v-x 4.5k 1Gig Hynix Ram - 5.3k 120Gb hdd sata (seagate/samsung) 4k Liteon/Sony Cd-rw - 1.3k 17" Screen CRT (Samsung/LG) 5.6k XFX Geforce 6600 - 7k last heard KB + Optical Mouse - 550 Total = 33k

Thanks for the replies.

So your quote would be 27.3K Now if I change HD to 80 gigs (i already have a spare 80gig WD 7.2k rpm 8mb HD), the price further drops to 26.1K Get rid of the CDRW, total equals 24.8K Now I can squeeze in a DVD burner (pref. Pioneer D107 to D109). |

Is the athlon 64 that you mentioned 939 or 754 pin ? EDIT// Just looked up your mobo specs, It's a 754 pin allright..// How about a P4 2.8 HT, how much do these sell for? And, what would be a good mobo for a P4? Cheers, Keith |

Guess I'll stick with Athlon 64 socket 754. I might flex the budget
a bit and get a 6600GT instead of the plain vanilla 6600. It all depends on how much I get for that Dell D-600 notebook that I picked up in Melbourne a couple of months back. Cheers, Keith |

2. It's one generation ahead of 9600. In league with X600. 3. 6600 gives 65% better FPS than 9600 in Far Cry (HQ, 1024x768, No AA, AF) Toms Hardware comparisons justify point 3. http://graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...004/index.html http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041222/index.html 4. I hate ATI's drivers. Made a switch last year to 9800. Most regrettable decision ever. [Consistent incompatibilities with DigitalTV-Terrestrial software (in Aus). No response to complaints. Also conflicts with nForce 2 Ultra 400 chipset. Pathetic (non existent) Linux driver support] GO nVIDIA Keith (born again nVidia fanboy) |

OK, now I know I'll have 37K to spend on a new PC (sold my Dell D600) I'm gonna get down to configuring my new system.
For starters - How much is Asus K8N E Deluxe mobo? I've decided on nForce 250gb chipset. Are there any real good alternates in India? Just can't wait till Monday. My dealer is confident of 10% tax rebates post VAT. Can anybody with a XFX 6600 256mb plain vanilla card give me the details of the RAM used? Also on 128 mb? Is there a problem with running two HD's - one IDE and one SATA?... I already have a WD 80gb IDE with 8mb cache. Need another 80gb. Any recommendations for cabinets? Need a sturdy one, easy to carry, easy to open, in silver+black. What's the best DVD-R media in India? Are Riteks available? TDKs? Thanks in advance and I'd really appreciate any help provided. Keith
