Default How to rip a DVD into AVI?

Can someone suggest softwares to rip a DVD into smallersize? I know there is one link in which chotacheeta has given instructions to rip a DVD using Auto Guardian but that takes a very long time. Can someone suggest some other softwares that rip/compress a 4.5 GB or 9 GB file to a smaller size preferably around 700 MB?

I suggest do not go for ripping the DVD to avi since it is a time consuming process. Better just make a copy of the DVD and keep it. In case it is a DVD9 then used DVD Decrypter/ DVD Shrink to make it fit into 1 standard DVD. But ripping is a bad idea. Thats what i feel.

Well this is not for me but for my friend! Since I dont have a large enough flash drive to give the movie to him the only option that's left with me is to rip into a smaller size.
batista, I know that the quality is good with Auto Guardian Knot but it's a very time consuming process, so I was looking for some other options!

Ripping takes some time and you need to go with it no other way..the reason it takes sometime is bcoz of two pass encoding...if you use converters, takes less time but quality will suffer.
