Default Which are the best Graphic cards?

Hey there,
I'm having a pc that has Pentium IV 2.4 Ghz with 512 MB DDR Ram and I'm willing to buy a graphic card for me. I've decided to buy ATI Radeon 9600 Pro but I'm gettining confused whether I should buy ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128 MB or I should buy ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256 MB the bottom line is I don't know what the memory does with the graphic card can anyone tell me what is the role of memory in graphic card? and please sugess me what product I should buy and why?

The memory on the graphics card is used to store textures and other data used in the game. This memory is optimised for use with the graphics card and hence is better than system memory. Obviously 256 MB would be better than 128 MB but it depends on the cost difference. Also it would be easier to recommend a card to you if I know what kind of games you intend to play. If you want to play texture heavy games like Doom 3, Half-Life 2 its better you get a 256 MB card. By the way what prices were you quoted for the 128 and 256 MB versions?

Well, I've been playing Rollercoaster Tycoon3 that also I think requires high graphic support. but, in future when I get a card I would definetely like to play those games you've menteioned. The vendor says that It would be cost approximately Rs. 5,000 for ATI Radeaon 9600 Pro 128 MB and Rs. 9,000 for ATI Radeaon 9600 Pro 256 MB.

for 5000 thats the 9600 non Pro , Powercolon

for 7300 its 9600 Pro 128 Mb from Gigabyte

for 9000 its the 9600 Pro 256 Mb from Powercolor

the prices which u have been quoted are very rite

but i suggest go for a 9600XT instead of the 9600 pro 256 Mb card

they are a tad better and almost the same price

All this should have been in the sticky for the graphics cards. Please don't create duplicate threads.
