sorry bro..but i don't think there is any way of speeding things up on
win 2k defragmentor. I suggest u use a third party utility like defragmentor premium etc. 2 really speed things up and it offers better features than the standard windows defragmentor.
If you use windows 98SE, you could speed up defragging by dloadin the unofficial Service Pack. It bundles the defragmentor that came with ME, and it really speeds things up.
For your system, the above two solutions will work.

Dowload DiskeeperLite.. it is a freeware and performs defragging much faster than windows.
When defragging, do the following to speed up defragging; otherwise you will get frequent messages of drive contents changing;
1. Disconnect from the internet if you are on a cable connection.
2. Disable Norton or any other anti-virus you may have installed.
3. Run Diskeeper Lite.
If you want a still faster defrag, run it in Safe Mode ( F8), then disable the antivirus.
When you install your system these are some tips to keep in mind so as to reduce the level of fragmentation.
1). Make partitions of large drives. It takes considerably more time to defrag a single large drive full of data as compared to smaller partitions.
2). Make different partitions for different purposes. Make one partition for Windows, another for games, another for program files, another for data.. etc as required. This way you only have to defrag the partition that you have added, deleted, installed files to.
3). A lot of the programs and games create temporary directories and saved games directory in your system drive, change those to the drive where you have installed your programs/games. If you do this you won't have to defrag your system drive as often.
4). Use a program like Diskeeper or O&O defrag.
5). If you use O&O Defrag, defrag your drives once you are done installing your system and programs. The next time you defrag, O&O will ony defrag the fragmented files.
