Messengers are not working... ???

Hi Friends,
I am using Windows XP SP2 in my TOSHIBA notebook. Everything was going well, but suddenly my messengers (MSN, Yahoo, etc), BitComet, FTP Softwares are not connecting to the internet... only Internet Explorer and DAP are working fine....
I don't know why it happened... but I don't want re-install my Windows...

When I try to connect MSN Messenger... it gives...

Error code: 80072efd

when I try to troubleshoot...
it gives...

Your gateway appears to be offline.

All the computer gurus over there, please help me... I am very much in trouble.... please guide me how can I solve this problem....

Which version of Windows are you using? You have a firewall installed?

I am using Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
I was using Ashampoo Firewall before... but I have uninstalled it long time ago...
Right now I am not using any firewall....
