knoppix CDs

What good are these Knoppix CDs if you cannot really run them....I mean

I have so many Knoppix CDs from LFY which simply are useless coz they

don't run. I pop in the CD and boot from the CD, the booting is fine

and hardware detection is excellent but just when the GUI is about to

come up on the screen, my monitor LED beside the power button starts

blinking with red color, normally it should be in green color and

does'nt blink!
This happens not just in my PC even my friends PCs do have the

same prob. An article on tweaking Knoppix CD was written in LFY mag,

but it was of no help. Now please tell me of what good are these CDs, I

have heard people use it as rescue disk etc etc, but to me it is just a

useless collection, unless you people help me out

well mebbe the KNOPPIX doesnt have the right drivers for ur monitor

so its unable to display in the resolution stated in ur monitor

lol u have talked ill off a gr8 live linux. Ofcourse what u heard was true but i wont agree with what you say.
I have a samtron monitor ,92mb of ram and still it works at a good speed

Nope ! I did'nt speak ill about live Linux, it is only some 7 or 8 Knoppix based CDs I have that do not seem to run on my PC. I have been using Linux for the past 3 years, I did my best to tweak into the knoppix live CD but could'nt solve this.
If you guys know anything about the boot command I shluld give the please let me know. I have a swap partition of 1 GB which is mounted during the booting of Knoppix CD.

i too faced a similer problem 4 monts ago , after large frustation one day i decided 2 go 4 do or break cd option , but magically there is an option 2 solve it , but i forget it now, try try until u succed champ, that's what computers mean

i may be wrong but it has happened to me too....


when i had my p!!! with an intel 810 series mobo... the same thing happened. I guess it doesn't detect the graphics card.

even if it doesn't detect the monitor type, it can set it as a default monitor. i don't think the problem is there


this problem has also been reported on the 845 series of mobos.....

even with my asus a7n266-vm mobo.. i face problems with older grub versions (<0.91) ... here the culprit is the nforce2 chipset

if you could specify your config, then mebbe we could work out sumthing

you guys seem to just have the screen resolution problem

use the following command beore booting

knoppix screen=800x600

this should resolve the problem

Too late to read your solution technoteen, but I left this thread long ago.
Finally I got it ! Now I am able to run all the knoppix CDs I've got.
All these days I was lazy to try all the options given in the

Knoppix-cheatcodes, but yesterday night I sat down with a hardcopy of

the cheatcodes and all my collection of Knoppix CDs and after a couple

of hours of sweating I got to run all those Knoppix CDs which untill

now never ran on my PC. And you know the mantra.... Khulja Sim

Sim...nope not this one, knoppix screen=800x600.
Fine, when you sweat out hours before your PC, you are bound to

get new doubts and quiries, and here they are:

1)There was on option in cheatcodes, knoppix fromhd and knoppix

bootfrom, how do I use them. I created an image of Knoppix CD on my c:
and what next do I need to boot from the knoppix CD and give those

cheatcodes ?

2) Can I give two cheatcodes at a time, I want to give knoppix

screen=800x600 and knoppix bootfrom=/dev/hdc1 at the same time, if it

is possible.. how ?

3) How can I install Knoppix on my PC ?

4) If not install, how can I run knoppix without its CD, I mean by

creating its image and mounting on a virtual drive, is that possible ?

5) For those still struggling with their knoppix CDs, google 'Knoppix

Cheatcodes' and try out all the options you are bound to get solution.

how to surf windows fat partitions with games knoppix....with earlier version i just doubleclick on hdas and it opened.but with this one it opens some kind of terminal window

try changing the refresh rates .

In games knoppix knoquerer seems to be missing or not included so you can`t see your fat32 files.But you can mount it and listen to songs and all
