Default Internal DVD writers + External Casing?? Is it possible???

i am interested in purchsing a dvd writer for my laptop, but since the original external dvd writers are very expensive i decided to purchase an internal dvd writer with a usb 2.0 casing. But then i was told by a Nehru Place (Delhi) dealer that internal dvd writers don't work externally with a casing.....Is this the case? Plz let me know if somebody is using this or has some concrete info about this.....Also let me know if the burning speed would be lesser than the max supported by the drive (like 16X)....

any help would be greatly appreciated....thanks in advance!!!

No dude you have been told wrong !!!
It is possible to use internal dvd writers external casing !!!
And yes you will have a performance drop if writing at 16X but I dont think 16X DVD-r or 16X+r is avaliable !!!
