Default Mysterious DVD?

This is a wierd error that i came across. I have an AMD Sampron processor and a Gigabyte Motherboard with 128Mb DDR ram. I also have a samsung dvd drive installed. I bought this system in november. It was working fine till now. The system works fine normally but if i put a cd or a dvd into the drive my system shuts down immediately. Its not a gradual shutdown, the whole system just goes down. Can someone tell me what the problem could be?.

Thanks in advance

I dunno for sure

B-U-T !!!

Can it be a VIRUS ?

Most probably it is one of the W32 ones that might cause damage when the autorun feature is invoked !

Hmm. Could be. But a priliminary scan revealed nothing. I used NAV 2005.

The same thing happens to me when I am playing small games provided by digit and press <escape> key to pause.

just perform all the routine stuff ...

scan with latest virus definitions

if possible do an online scan

run spybot nd adaware

run > msconfig > clear all unwanted entries

remove CD ROM/DVD ROM drives frm device manager, restart the PC,XP will install back the devices nd check....

still not working ??? check out ur SMPS...can be its fault...as soon as CD/DVD drive draws power the system shuts down...try out this way...disable autorun..insert the disc nd restart i.e the system shud start with a disc already in the drive... open my computer after restart nd browse the CD...see if system shuts down ..

That's what mate !
The Autoplay programs are 32 bit exe (in win XP, it resides within the OS)
and hence it might be vulnerable to the attack !

What say ?
