Default How to transfer all data from old to new hard disk


Hi guys...

I have bought a new 160GB sata hard disk

and currently i have all my data in my ide 80GB hard disk with windows xp running..

Please tell me how can i copy all the data from 80Gb to 160GB hdd..

Will i have to copy after installing windows in 160 gb hdd...

or is there available any software which transfers all data automatically from my 80 to 160GB hard disk....

Plz guide me as i dont want to loose any data....

Also what will happen to partitions if i make a clone copy ...

Plz suggest considering all possibilities

u need to connect ur 2nd hdd thats it...
now ur 160 gb + 80 gb both will work
windows boot from ur 80 gb hdd

it just look like another drive without patition

use partition magic or simply u go to my computer> manage> disk mangment
and from dere do wat ever u want to do with ur hdd partition

I will use now onwards only 160GB ..
thats why i want to transfer all data from my 80GB to new 160GB hard disk

So plz help in this case

You can try Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image which will make an exact copy of your old HDD in new, including OS, softwares installed etc.

Thats what you meant ?

ya i know that these type of softwares will make copy of one hdd in other..

But i wanna know that as my old 80gb hdd has partitions according to 80gb space..
Now my new hdd is of 160GB so how will be exact copy made from old to new...How will be partitioned adjusted??

Dude I suggest you copy all your important DATA manually and then make a fresh install of WINDOWS XP on 160GB after removing 80GB one.

I suggest u first attach both HDD to pc.Then boot pc using G-parted live cd & clone the old partition on new hdd.It's very simple.Search google for G-parted.

I have used Acronis Migrate easy...
It is superb software...

I got my work done very easily with it. It auto adjusted the partition sizes on new hdd ..
I recommend u all who need to perform like me
