I think it is 2150/- as per what i checked a few days ago. seagate 7200 rpm

That's actually quite cheap for a 15,000 rpm drive. A few years ago, you would only get a 70Gb drive for that price. SCSI interface, isn't it?

Cost of sata 160G seagate 5100 in bangalore got one a month back.

i paid 2850 or 2800 for 40 gb samsung 7200 drive for ide drive

40 gig @7200 rpm Samsung was for rs.2000 so i bought the 80 gig @7200 rpm for Rs. 2600 instead.

It was seldom (if ever) really called PATA before. But when SATA drives came out, people wanted an easy way of telling the difference. SATA (Serial ATA) drives transfer data in series, one after the other. So since the older IDE drives transfer data as several bits travelling along separate data lines in parallel, they've come to be called PATA (P for parallel).
