computer hangs after every random time

Hello everyone ... i m going thru a very very strange problem . and its really troublesome

Computer Configuration:
Processor : Intel Pentium 3
RAM : 128 MB
Graphic card : NVidia 32 MB Card
Harddisk : 40 GB

Problem:
Now my computer hangs after every random time. Say after 1 hour or after 2 hours

It hangs this way:
1.) My Monitor goes BLANK (The monitor light BLINKS)
2.) The harddisk light is continuosly RED
3.) The CD Rom light is continuosly GREEN (I got Sony so cdrom light is green)

What can be the possible cause for this problem?
Is it the CPU?
Is it memory problem?

I would really really be very thankful to people here who can help me solve this problem..

sometime overheating of processor or chasis temp could make pc unresponsible.

keep the pc cool. see if fan attached to processor is rotating smoothly. clean the dust

fanatic, problem might be with the case heating up or some problem with the applications u run. Specify when this happens. Might help u then clearly.

Here is a possible solution

1) Open up ur cabinet while working !
If the problem does not Occur now, it might be
that ur cabinet needs a cleaning!

2) Ur processor might get heated up
Get a pro and ask him 2 apply thermal paste
below the processor and then check out the performance


If the prob persists, Get the PRO 2 do something about it !

hey thanks for ur reply man
when i opened the cabinet i realized that the fun isnt running properly

i think its the processor fan problem and the cabinet problem

will clean them up

i had same problem, i just added a fan at a very weired place
near pci slots

and no hang since than
