Man those prices nowhere apply to Bangalore. Let me see-

All prices Bangalore
As far as sound card is concerned, why don't u go for Creative SB live 24 bit?. Its really great. Costs about Rs. 2350/- . Or else Creative Sound Blaster Live DE 5.1 is always there. Costs about Rs. 1900/-

Speakers go for Altech lansing AVS 500 for Rs. 2750/- or Creative Inspire 4400 for rs. 3150/-

You can go for Liteon Combo drive (DVD reader/CD writer) for Rs. 2750/-

Seagate 80 GB (7200 RPM) 5YW available for Rs. 2850 /-

Hmm.., why u need to get a 80gb one, get 120gb or 160gb.
120Gb/7200 RPM sata costs Rs 4000. U are gonna be paying marginally more...

One more thing:
Samsung --> chances of getting bad sectors
Seagate --> Noisy drive (but for higher capacity HDD only)

Get maxtor ones , IMO it's good.

Hmm, consider this:
CD burner = rs. 1300
DVD rom = rs. 1500
Total = rs. 2800

Combo =rs. 2500 or so.
So u have two extra drives for rs. 300 more. Also the lens wont last long...

DVD rom = liteon
CD burner = liteon / pioneer

DVD witers
Sony 720b =rs. 4250
Benq 1620 =rs. 4500
Both are good and dual layered ones. And we get more softwares with benq than with sony.

Also, don't go in for the Creative inspire 4400. instead try for the 5200. the 4400 is outdated and discontinued (I think). Also, watching movies in 4.1 sucks. 5.1 gives a much better surround experience....

Thanks for the replies.
I intend on going with the ATHLON XP 3200+ not the 64-bit version.
So in that context , how would the system match up..?

Hmm..., it's better that u go for a 64-bit processor. But even then that wont be justified untill u run some 64-bit softwares on it... , windows 64-bit version is going to come this summer. Whatever, it will be better if get for a 64 bit version of AMD.

Well...
I think i would go for the Athlon 64 2800+ as thats closest to the price of the XP 3200+ .
Which motherboard is a good one below Rs. 4400.
How much would a Radeon 9800 pro or a lower end 9600 pro cost... A 6600GT would be nice as well.
Which is a decent pair of 4.1 speakers that would go well with my Aurreal Vortex AU8810 Sound card and doesnt cost a lot ( below 2000).

Thanks.

9800 pro is expensive around 14K I think. The 9600 pro costs around 8.5K The 6600 GT costs 13-14K

MSI K8MM-ILSR for the s754 amd 64 2800+ for Rs 4400

get 6600GT instead of 9800 pro this wod cost u 12k

9600 pro costs 7.5k

dun go in for cheap 4.1 solutions, instead buy a 2.1 speaker system from a good brand like creative /altec lansing

Well I just wanted to confirm how the ati board fares with nvidia card. I mean is there anything like it is tweaked for ati cards and nvidia cards may not perform to the full potential?

naah

its good to hear that they havent got so mean

nvidia has been giving 100 % faith to ATi cards and made no discrimination against them

ATi responded with the same attitude

A thing from personal experience Nvidia cards are easier to setup and work without fuss(compared to ATI) in linux. So go Nvidia if linux is also an option for an OS.

who buys gfx cards to play games in linux ??

linux is just for once in a blue moon stuff and the drivers provided by them both from nvidia and ati work pretty well for the normal usage
