Default Does page file help?

I'm currently running win vista ultimate x64 and it seems to be bloated slow. Well to get straight with my question does page file play any role in improving its performance? I currently have just one partition alloted for this purpose so should i get this done on more partition. Also are there any complications and setbacks if i do this?
The physical memory usage always rockets up at above 65% also on installing MS 0ffice 2007 the system freezes! Nor is it possible for me to install new games as the pc just freezes! I'm currently on 1 GB of memory & 256MB Graphic card.

1st you have to learn what is Page File, why would you need page file ??

See OS will use some portion of the HDD space as Page file or Virtual Memory to shift in-active or some un-important service to in that... which allows more faster form of memory, thats ur ram to be free to run forground services which is in need of real time attention...

read more... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_memory

usually you would neeed 1.5 times of your RAM as Page file... http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro....mspx?mfr=true ....

So page files helps... no matter how big your RAM size is Windows / OS will need Swap partition or rather Page file for running them self...
