yeah u can work with only one pci-e card no worries
there is an option !
if u work with one card it'll work in 16x mode
if u work in sli mode each will work in 8x mode
there is a simple chip selector on the asus sli mobo !
the cheapest pci-e card is x300 afaik .. however it definitely isnt worth it !

Guys I have some doubts on sli technology. Please help me
1. Can an SLI enabled motherboard work on only one pci-e card or is it compulsary that there must be two cards
2. Please tell me which is the cheapest SLI card available in the market.
1. Yes. SLi was made with the same view point that the user should be able 2 upgrade to another card at any point in order to get a performance boost. But the cards have to be the same for eg: 2 6800Gts or 2 6600Gts, you won't be able to pair a 6800 and a 6600GT. ATI's AMR shud change that a bit .
2. Like dark said the XFX 6600GT is the cheapest 6600GT arnd retailing for 12k in mumbai.
