Default Help Which ram should i use?

Please tell me which is better combination to boost comp speed.

512MB DDR(400 mhz) + 512MB DDR(400 mhz) (Two sticks)

Or
512MB DDR + 1GB DDR

Or

1 GB DDR (single stick)

It's urgent. I going to buy one of these Today

if u not buying RAM based on Dual-channel architecture den der wud b NO PERFORMANCE BOOST over sinlge RAM stix

but u shud go 4 2, just 4 safety and not performance boost [unless ofcourse u going 2 buy dual channel memroy stix]

RAM stix matchin clock speeds r ideal, but if u cannot get them den 1 400 and 1 333 will also do [provided ur mobo supprots 400]

if ur mobo supports dual channel buy 512 DDR 400.. & buy a identiacal module of ur previous ram..means both rams in dual channel mode must have same specification & frm same company..then u will get little bit performance boost...

My Everest home edition shows this

Front Side Bus Properties
Bus Type Intel NetBurst
Bus Width 64-bit
Real Clock 133 MHz (QDR)
Effective Clock 533 MHz
Bandwidth 4266 MB/s

Memory Bus Properties
Bus Type DDR SDRAM
Bus Width 64-bit

CPU Properties
CPU Type Intel Pentium 4 506
CPU Alias Prescott
CPU Stepping G1
Engineering Sample No
CPUID CPU Name Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz
CPUID Revision 00000F49h

CPU Speed
CPU Clock 2666.63 MHz (original: 2667 MHz)
CPU Multiplier 20.0x
CPU FSB 133.33 MHz (original: 133 MHz)
Memory Bus 0.00 MHz

Memory Controller
Type - Dual Channel (128-bit)
Active Mode - Single Channel (64-bit)

Memory Timings
CAS Latency (CL) 3T

Memory Slots
DRAM Slot #1 512 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)

IS this good or bad? I don't know
Will my performance increase?

Also why Memory Bus is 0.00 MHz ?

u given onle fsb and cpu info [ok ur memory bw also given]

if ur mobo supports dual channel memroy den go 4 dem if it duz not still go 4 2 stix instead of 1 [safety]
and go 4 d 3rd option u given

512MB DDR + 1GB DDR
if u usin vista AERO functionality will not slwo ur rig down
also helpful wen runnin memory-intensive appz like gamin or gimp photshoppin' or such other thins

Everest home edition shown that

Type - Dual Channel (128-bit)
Active Mode - Single Channel (64-bit)

that means my mobo support dual channel?

See the aim of dual channel ram is to match your fsb spped of the cpu to ram speed. So here in your case it is 533 mhz so even 266 mhz ddr modules running in dual channel mode(266*2=533mhz)wiil do.However I dont think this frequency of ram is available. So u should go with 2*512 mb ddr 333 modules. You won't be able to get any substential perfomance gains with ddr 400 in dual channel and buy it only if there is very little price difference betwen ddr 333 and ddr 400 prices in your area .

Actually 333 Ram is rare nowadays and 400 is more easily available.

@aneesh kalra actually i hav already 512 mb 400mhz ram.And i think if i buy another 400mhz ram then it would be better for dual channel mode.

My current CPU FSB is 133 mhz
can i increase it by changing CPU Multiplier

Quote:
So here in your case it is 533 mhz
Just checked on intel website it says
Supported FSB 800 MHz / 533MHz
That means my mobo also support 800 mhz FSB?

My current mobo FSB is 133 MHz. (As shown in Everest home edition )
But BIOS shows system fsb = 400mhz

Ram= 400 mhz (same in both Everest home edition & BIOS )

Cpu fsb =133 mhz (as in Everest home edition)

But on intel website it gives

Model Number sSpec number Frequency L2-Cache Front Side Bus
Pentium 4 506 2667 MHz 1024 KiB 533 MT/s

where fsb =533 mt/s
then why cpu fsb is not 266 mhz?
