Default Netscape Returns with New Browser

Remember the Netscape broswer? Well, it's back, sort of.

Netscape owner America Online has released the first public beta version of a new Netscape Web Browser. Similar to Firefox, Netscape Version 8.0 is based heavily on open-source code and is geared with a strong emphasis on privacy and security.

Among the features, outside security researchers will supply 8.0 with updated blacklists of websites that are suspected of distributing spyware or hosting phishing schemes and the browser promises to redirect customers to a warning page when they access a banned site.

The new browser also allows users to browse multiple web pages in a single window, making use of tabs with titles to identify each page.

Just a decade ago Netscape boasted an 80 percent share of the web browser market until Microsoft's Internet Explorer stole the show.

Well, why are ppl posting only on general discussion?

Well, i downloaded 3 days ago, and i dint like it. It sucks bigtime.

Cons:
1. Resource sucker
2. Exact copy of firefox, even the extension link went to mozilla home page!
3. 12 mb file, has AOL messenger as well ;whether we like it or not...
4. Damn slow, it's like IE.

The only good thing is that it looks good.

Just download and see for yourself and u will never again use netscape!

IMHO, Netscape and Firefox are from different code base.

I do not know what their meaning of based means. But since long, Netscape and Mozilla's sources have been separate.

release notes point 6 says,
6. The deficiencies noted in FireFox 1.0 are inherited in Netscape 8 BETA in most cases. Patches to the FireFox code base will be imported into Netscape 8 BETA as they become available and are tested for compatibility. The recently released 1.0.1 patch has not been imported into Netscape 8 BETA.

this somewhat means that their codebases are different.
