Talking N95

As my brother's birthday was fast approaching (15th of august). I was thinking what gift should I give to him. He'll be now 16 years old. I first thought giving a pair of clothes would do the job. But i then thought that he won't be that happy. so i thought of giving him a cell phone. I started my search on what phone wud suit him better. I had many options in mind.

Some of them were

1. HTC touch
2. p990i
3. P1i
4. N-95

The first three were kinda PDA phones nd also had a tuch screen. I thought that he might not take care of the screen and if by mistake something happens to the screen. everything is lost. So I chose the last option. The Nokia N 95.

The first look at the box tells everything whats inside.

I have the world
in my hand.

I am Nokia Nseries

This is whats written on the box. I opened the box and saw the beauty staring at me . The cell was enclosed in some plastic case. Also there were the compartments for the handsfree and battery. Other things it contained were the manual, a cool looking case, PC suite software, TV connector, USB connector and some software CD.

Starting up the cell:

I put in the battery and started it. I was amazed with the booting time it took. It was so fast!! Then as usual, it greeted me with the Nokia Handshake I started to browse the menu. The placement of the keys is good. I had no troubles testing each key. There are mainly 7 keys on the panel, excluding the 5 way scrol key.
These include
1. Symbian key (For menu)
2. Multimedia key (in which you can add the shortcuts you want)
3. Call key
4. End key
5. Edit key
6. Clear key
7. Selection key

The operating system of N95 is Symbian S60 3rd Edition, v9.2. I felt like everything is same like my old n3250, which has v9.1. The same options, the same settings. But after opening a few applications i came to know the difference. It shows an arrow (just like the shortcut we have in windows) for the applications which are open. So that you can close the open applications and save up the RAM memory, thus making the phone faster. This function of closing the applications can also be done using the menu key. Just hold the menu key for a few seconds and the the list of open applications will pop-up. You can then close them uing the End key.

The themes are also pretty cool. I though preferred to download them thru internet, so that i can customize as per my liking.

The use of multimedia key is great. When you press it, a new menu comes up which contains the user configured shortcuts. The best part is that it rotates so that u can have a great feel. In the background, some blurred images are shown. I really don't understand why they were shown. But they don't distract too much.

Regarding the keypad, I guess it is pretty good. The sliding mechanism is pretty cool. You can Slide it upwards as well as downwards. When u slide it upwards, u can type in the numbers/ messages.

When u slide it downwards, u see the dedicated keys which are available for music. It changes the image to portrait mode thus giving a better view of the photos and stuff.

The backlit for the keypad is in cool blue colour which is really cool.

Camera:

Well, what can i say about the camera. It is one of the best available in markets today. It is a 5 Megapixel camera which includes a Carl Zeiss optics. It can capture image resolution of 2592x1944 pixels. There is an active toolbar in the side which allows you to switch between the video and photo modes.

Other functions include

1. Selecting flash
2. Self timer
3. Sequene mode
4. Colour effect
5. Adjusting white balance
6. Adjusting the exposure
7. Adjusting light sensitivity

You can also edit the images as well as crop them.

Video:

Video quality too is awesome. It can record videos in .3gp as well as high quality videos for TV viewing in 640x480 pixels
The High quality videos consume a lot of memory space though. 10 MB per 30 secs. The quality of the videos is also awesome when viewed on TV.

Audio:

Well, what can u expect from an N series phone. The sound quality is the best i've ever seen, both through earphones and the

loudspeaker. I guess N95 has the best loudspeaker available in the mobile market today. People can hear your phone ringing even when u r kms away.

The n95 comes equipped with 3-d tones. When it is enabled, u can feel a three dimensional sound effect when ur phone rings.
You can set the Trajectory speed, Reverberation, even doppler effect :O

It has a 3.5 mm jack so that u can connect ur favourite ear phones and enjoy the music. The bundled earphones are really bad though. I didn't even care of connecting them to the cell. The music player is able to find all the music which is present of the phone memory as well as the memory card. The memory card bundled is of 1 GB.

The radio can be accessed only when you connect the earphones. you can store upto 50 stations in the memory. The visual radio is also available, although i wasn't able to check it out coz it is activated only in Mumbai nd Delhi.

The other exciting thing is the Videocentre. It gives you access to the online videos present on the web. Its like Youtube on

cell

The mobile comes with a built in GPS system, a wireless lan and other defaults like bluetooth and infrared.
I can't comment on the GPS system coz i wasn't able to use it. As far as the wireless lan goes, the connectivity was good.

And I was able to download the data easily.

The other files that were installed in it included office, adobe reader, calculator, converter, barcode reader, etc.

Well, the phone is one of the best equipped phones in the market today. But this comes at a price. At 27k, the phone isn't cheap. But I guess my brother's happiness counts more. So I guess the money i spent was worth every penny.

P.S. This was the first review of my life. Do comment on it and also help me improve myself.

Regards,

Kauzy...
