Of course you can store them whereever you like without zipping them, Personally I wud store them in HDD itself.

i suggest dat dat u access d swz from d hdd itself, cause frequent accesing d sw from d disk will scratch d disk making it unusable l8r, but doze dat r critical may b burnt on an optical disk 4 future retrieval in case of hdd failure or portablitiy needs

as 4 zipping dem, it wud definity save u space [sum or lotsa] on d hdd

wat he is probably trying 2 tell u is dat installed swz sumtime load a small exe file @ startup, 4 eg antivirus, mouse driverz, autoamtic wallpaper changer etc,dey r imp

besides dis sum swz installer a schedular or updater exe file @ startup 2 b able 2 d/l d latest version of d sw wen u connect 2 d net

dez can b dispensed wit. removing dem from startup will improve startin time

but if u taking about setup exe files of swz dey r not accesed @ startup

2 check d list of all d startup entries and delete doz dat u can do w/o u may use RegSeeker 1.55

yes its a wise move to store them as zipped or rar files. coz sometimes if ur pc gets infected with a virus, it also infects setup files.
but zipping them adds protection.

Its better for storing .exe files (if they are frequently used files) on hdd as installing .exe from media is time consuming as well as shortens the life of media.

And compressing them...saves .exe from the infection of viruses etc...So..its better to zip all .exe & then save them on hdd.
