Dear,
When I try to find the folder "Local Setting" in c:\Document and setting\skg\
it shows the other folder eg. Apps, coocies, desktop, favorite, startmenu, usuer data, my document etc. but the local setting folder is not shown.
How can I get visible the folder.
Pl. note the folder option is "Show hidden file & folder".

C:\Documents and Settings\skg\Local Settings\Temp

C:\Documents and Settings\skg\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

enter these addresses in ur address bar and press enter. see if it works.

P.S- i believe that ur username is skg. if not, then change it accordingly.

its not visible doesnt mean it has got deleted. thats not possible as skghosh44, can access the folders within it.

must have to do something with hidden files.

check ur folder options, and see if BOTH these options r ticked-
1.show hidden files and folders
2.hide protected operating system files(recommended)

Try one more thing,

Do u see the folder in All Users Directory ?? or is that missing too ??

Try to run a command, sfc /scannow keep ur Windows Installation CD in hand see if that helps... !!! also if u re-install any application which places its files in that folder like Microsoft Office it will re-create the folder for u

Even u can manually re-creat it too,

Problem is restoring the File it contained !!!

U didnt get the point for which i asked him to run the test, see he can creat a same name folder on that directory !!! that means there is no such Dir named Local Settings

Slugger,
dear friend it is not fictitious problem. If I type in the address bar "C:\Documents & setting\user name\ local setting\" it displays page cannt be displayed. If I typed with the address as"C:\Documents & setting\user name\ local setting\ \Temporary Internet Files or history or Temp then it shows all the file in the sub folder "Temporary Internet Files", "History" or "Temp" under the DIR "local Setting". But the folder "Local Setting" he himself is not visible.
Today I ovserved that the same case in case folder
"Application Data"

I am sorry that as per your test I have done a mistake I have typed the
folder to create as "Local Setting" instead of "Local Settings". Today while I experimnting with the problem keeping in mind your suggestion, I wanted to
create a folder "Local Settings" and "Application Data", but both the folder cannnot be created with a warning Msg. " Cannot make folder as thereis already a system folder with the same name".
Hope now you guys can solve my problem.

Thnx for explaining...

Quote:

Mind u even he would be glad if he finds it non geniune

anyway, As i said, just to check I asked him to see even if that folder exists or not !!!

As we can see now He can creat a same folder on that place, so it means the Local Settings folder is missing... !!!

Which seems quite unusual

as with Windows XP that IE Temp folder is in Local Settings... which the author can access

!!! even me is little confuse now

As if he can create Local Settings folder then There should not be any Internet Temp Folder and if there is Internet Explorer Temp folder, then Windows Will not allow him to creat that Local Settings folder there !!!

Any of those 2 is wrong, as both cant happen at once...

P.S. I think he is from Assam not a Bong

Try this :
Start > Run > %temp%
Press Enter

Your Temp directory should open .. Which is in your Documents and Settings folder .. By this you can find out what actually is your username and where your Local Settings are stored.. ..
