It is a good manner to seed after getting the file. If number of seeders is great your upload rate wil not be affected much. However if you like you can remove the torrent any time after downloading it.

On which connection are u?
I am on BSNL 900UL plan. u/l speed never affested my d/l speed.
But as drsethi said, u can anytime remove the file from seeding list. Just highlight it and press delete from keyboard. (This methos is for utorrent but I think it will work for bitlord too.)

^^no, no the prob is not that i can't remove completed torrents. i can do that but i feel very guilty if i don't seed it. the prob is if i seed it, the upload rate of other downloads is affected (since i have a limited upload rate of 256kBps on a 256 kbps line). torrent clients give download rates proportional to upload speeds so my dl speeds drop. how do i seed then?

^^
1) Check the maximum ul and dl speed of your net connection, using any site dedicated to do the same.
2) Cap your ul speed to around 70-80% of the maximum ul speed.
3) Your download speed should be set to unlimited
4) Enjoy downloading.

This way, you can upload whatever you can and download at full speed too.
If your ul speed is too much, then it can decrease your dl speed.

Your client must have an option to limit the upload speed. Restrict it to some value ....you find optimum. Generally 80% of total upload bandwidth sholud be allocated at max for upload. SO choose a value between that.

Not always true. Theoritically that should be the case, but it isn't.
Try it out.

In windows bittorrent gives very good ratio of upload and d/load about 1:5, try it. In happy hours 2am to 8am I can d/load more than 3GB

don't listen to him. he's neck deep in bliss on seventh heaven. he has an ordinary MTNL 256kbps unlimited connection but for some reason he's getting high speeds. i tell him everyday that its jut a matter of time before he comes crashing down to mother earth, but hes making sure to enjoy it while it lasts
