Question DVD doesn't get recognised..!!!

Guys recently i purchased an original DVD movie. When I tried to play it in computer the DVD drive didn't recognise the DVD at all.It shows the message "There is no disk in drive x:".I tried to play it using VLC Media player but in vain. The player too didn't recognise. What will be the problem and will it be due to any region code problem with my DVD drive.I used Nero info tool and found that my DVD drive has got no region code enabled and region control is set to RPC II.When I tried to play it in my DVD Player, the DVD gets recognised and it plays smoothly. But the problem is i can't forward, rewind, change language or do any other operations with it. Why is it so?My DVD player is an old and a local model. My system specs are Pentium IV 2.4 ghz,Intel 865g motherboard,256 MB ram,80 GB HD,sony DVD drive,Geforce 4 MX graphics card. Please help me out..!!

yeah I agree, Sony has problems with all there laser units, doesn't matter what you buy from sony and it has a laser, you're pretty well screwed. I'm waiting to see what those new ps3's are like. give 'em a few years and I bet people will have issues with them not reading disks.
