Yeah.. its one of the TOP 5 AVs be it paid or free! Where did you get the idea that its under-rated? Its one the most highly regarded AVs!

thats what i meant, yes. it does not occupy top-of-the-mind recall space. even amongst freeware we tend to name first avast and then avg only. btw on download.com avg free has been downloaded twice the no of times (approx) as avast.

Yes. Antivir is one of the best free antivirus. It has very good detection rates. Infact it is better than avast!. The only big drawback is the updates. The servers are very slow and hence unusually slow updating process. This applies to free personal edition. Paid version has got good updates speed.
