But ask him in any case never to go for Lg or samsung. Some shopkeepers can trick you by saying sony sucks if they dont have it in their stock

I never had any problem with it.
Having a DVD writer is a better option then buying a Hdd.
Thats why I am happy with my 40GB hdd.
And have 1000+ Dvds now...
These days I have to burn a DVD every 4 days. (Because of my unlimited BB connection )

1 small problem .........
my frd has insisted on keeping his old cd rom & cd ritter 2 ........
he used 2 writte his cd`s using nero 6 ....
will his old cd ritter support nero 7 or firstly we will have 2 remove nero 6 & then install 7, right as 2 versions wont work in 1 OS ?

Nero 7 will work offcourse and i dont think you can install Nero 6 and 7 at the same time. As soon as you launch Nero 7 the Windows Installer wll help you upgrade

working superb .
without lite-on
can burn dual layer dvd
read dvd-ram
all other disc's
