manually asign IP address in the PCs,

In PC 1

Ip address 192.168.0.1
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Default Getway Leasve blank

in PC 2

Ip address 192.168.0.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Default Getway Leasve blank

Turn one file share in Both PCs, Share your drives

You have to run that "Setup up Home or Small Office Network" wizard, and make sure both the PCs are on the same wrokgroup.

I've done this with Vista and XP Sp2 without any problem, you have to tweak Security policy as well!!

Did you bothered to read closely what he said, before posting a frivolous reply? He is using Xp on other machine!!

Yes, you do have to run "Setup up Home or Small Office Network" wizard on Xp to configure it.
